Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square offers up some of the best people-watching you'll find anywhere, with shaded tables for the sunniest days, and overhead heat lamps for chillier summer nights. Situated on Commonwealth Avenue just a block from Fenway Park, this Back Bay favorite has a sizeable patio that fills up quickly. Their menu offers modern cuisine using classic French technique, paired with classic cocktails. Try the refreshing Nicoise salad with a Singapore Sling. C'est magnifique!

Shopping on Newbury Street is at it's best when the weather gets warm. One of the most lively places to catch a snack and a drink on the infamous shopper's paradise is Sonsie, at the upper end near Massachusetts Avenue. See and be seen during happy hour on a weekday, or take a break from shopping in their open-air dining room - they open the floor-to-ceiling facade windows for a fresh breeze through the restaurant. A lighter Italian-inspired menu refuels your shopping engines while observing the hustle and bustle of passersby.

If it's the simple endulgence of pizza and ice cream you crave, look no further than Picco, on the corner of Tremont and East Berkeley Streets in the South End. With plentiful patio seating under bright orange umbrellas, the "Pizza and Ice Cream Company" known as Picco is inviting for larger groups and sure to please with a treat for two.

The lush greenery, unique wildlife, blooming flora, and 6 footbridged waterways are only a few of the riches this urban jewel brings to the city of Boston parks and outdoor gardens.

Known as the "second link" in the Emerald Necklace, The Arnold Arboretum is a park for both scientific exploration and outdoor enjoyment. Open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset, the Arboretum is North America's first public arboretum. With a visitor's center and bookstore in the Hunnewell building providing plentiful information, everyone from photographers to horticulturists, families to historians can find beauty to appreciate.

Owned by the city of Boston and leased to Harvard University for educational purposes for 1000 years, The Arboretum is host to Peter's Hill, the highest point in the 6 parks that make up the Emerald Necklace. Gorgeous skyline views from the Hill are a lovely way to end a hike, bike, or leisurely dog walk through the park.

Plant and agricultural life from other parts of the world have always been found in the Arboretum, and now during the month of June, the knowledgeable staff will be providing free guided tours in ten different languages starting at 2 PM on Saturdays and Sundays! Boston Bed and Breakfast Excited for South End Restaurant Opening

Boston's South End is eager to welcome to the neighborhood a traditional, historically-insipred menu at Kitchen, which will take over the former Pops space this spring or early summer.   Chef/owner Scott Herritt, who also runs the Marliave in Downtown Crossing and Grotto in Government Center, is the proud collector of practically archaic cookbooks including works by Escoffier, plus first-edition copies of The Joy of Cooking and The Savoy Cocktail Book. These fundamental examples of cooking literature have served as the inspiration of his thoughtful cuisine.

“There’s a lesson to be learned at almost every meal we eat, and there’s a story behind it. ” Herritt says of his traditional fare.  Menu items are said to include a savory nightly roast, showcased in an open kitchen, and a fish, clam, pork chowder with a taste of 19th century hardtack. As an homage to the legendary Julia Child, the most “recent” dish you will find is a “Sole, dated November 2, 1948", the date Child ordered her first lunch in France, which she openly credited this dish for kick-starting her culinary endeavors. Bartenders will serve up a similar history lesson, with the original barkeepers manual Jerry Thomas’ Bartender’s Guide as an inspiration for Kitchen's cocktail offerings.. Expect fun classic drinks like the Queen’s Park Swizzle, with rum, simple syrup, angostura bitters, and mint.

The arrival of Kitchen's concept to the South End is a refreshing way to introduce historical New England fare to locals and visitors alike. This May, Boston is hosting the first ever Top Desserts event in Boston, spotlighting the best of the best in our city's sweets scene. On Thursday May 24th at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, guests will be treated to a taste of a new dessert, or a dessert soon to be featured on the participating pastry chef's late spring/summer menus at the restaurants they call home. Tempt your tastebuds with southern-inspired treats from Chef Tiffani Faison's repertoire. Or maybe a French-inspired finale sounds like the perfect ending to your meal - Chef Jiho Kim from L'Espalier has recipes that are sure to please.

In Boston, our bed and breakfast guests along with us, wait for for Spring & Summer each year. Sure, we have plenty of fun winter time activities to keep us entertained, but there is a special quality about a sun drenched day that will have neighbors & visitors of South End out in droves. We have a particular affinity to this time of year. At our downtown Boston hotel, we have our outdoor spaces coming together, including a colorful terrace seating area complete with lime greens & opulent purples. Another reason we love this time of year is the return of the SoWa Art Walk on May 6th. For those not familiar with SoWa it is an area of Boston, South End that is South of Washington Street. The neighborhood subsection has a reputation for art galleries, one off boutiques & loft style residences. The Art Walk marks the approaching summer season and gives locals access to a majority of the galleries and studios. Boston may be major city in New England, but you will not feel overwhelmed when you're walking around. Make no mistake, our city is perfect to explore by foot from our centrally located downtown boutique hotel. In just 20 minutes, you can stroll from our "central park" the Boston Common down to the waterfront and pass major historical attractions, shops and food purveyors along the way. Once you get to the water, a new adventure awaits. Here you will find a collection of lively restaurants, exclusive shopping & an appreciation for the arts & architecture. There is truly something to see for everyone along the Harborwalk. Sam's Boston: This upscale bistro on Fan Pier offers a fun environment with live music every Friday night, and their menu has a little bit of everything, focusing on fresh, local ingredients. A fabulous pick for lunch or dinner. If you have a vice for luxury shopping, then go for lunch and shop the collection at Louis Boston, our city's most exclusive department store, which happens to house Sam's in the same building.

Happy-hour visitors might also enjoy catching a beer and a Red Sox game on the "Monster Wall" (Imagine 32 HD 46" plasma screens) at Jerry Remy's Sports Bar. Georgetown Cupcake You may recognize the name from the TLC reality series DC Cupake. The sister owned & operated bakery serves deliciously, sophisticated cupcakes that are just as tasty as they are eye appealing. The take ordinary flavors like Chocolate & bump them up by using Valrhona Chocolate, prized for its luxurious taste & quality. Our advice, go with a group, so you can tackle the size and put a dent into the list of fabulous flavors.

April 16th, 2012 marks the 116th annual Boston Marathon road race. Held every year on Patriots' Day, the third Monday of April, the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest and best-known road racing events. The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) manages the most widely-viewed sporting event in New England, which attracts both amateur and professional runners from all over the world, and over a half million spectators each year. The BAA plans various events during marathon weekend to encourage friends, family and fans of participants to get involved in the tradition.

On Friday, entrants are invited to pick up their bib numbers and visit the John Hancock Sport and Fitness Expo at the Seaport World Trade Center. The Expo showcases running-related products and services, and allows fans and visitors a chance to comingle with participants or ask questions of the experts and industry professionals. On Saturday the BAA's youth running program will run the Relay Challenge. Perfect for newer or less adventurous runners, the BAA's 5K Relay Challenge on Sunday morning starts at the Copley Square Park, just a few blocks from Clarendon Square bed and breakfast. Also, the challenge is conveniently located to all of Boston's best shopping. That evening, the Boston Marathon Pre-Race Dinner is held at City Hall Plaza. This pre-race pasta dinner is the best chance for runners and their guests to carb-load up with a hearty meal before the big race on Monday morning.

Race Day starts Monday at 9:00 AM, southwest of the city of Boston in Hopkinton, MA, where the 26.2 mile course begins. Spectators gather along the entire distance of the course, ending on Boylston Street in Copley Square, just a few blocks from our Boston Bed and Breakfast. The Charles River side of Boylston Street is open to the general public, and many fans arrive at the finish area in the early hours of the morning to secure the best viewing area. Race sponsors equip the area with a big video screen, enabling spectators to watch a broadcast of the race while they await the arrival of all the finishers.

After the race at 5:00 PM, champions and top finishers will receive their awards in the Grand Ballroom at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Back Bay Hotel. The Official Post-Race Party at the House of Blues begins at 7:30 PM with a live performance by blues legend James Montgomery of the James Montgomery Bluesband, dancing, a race video, race results, cash bar and complimentary light dinner fare. The vibe in the city after the marathon concludes is inspring. You will see runners out to dinner with medals around their necks & wrapped in the foil blankets.

The menu features familiar dishes that can satisfy both the Dim Sum novice and veteran. Not to be missed are the selection of Bao which is available with Tofu or Short Ribs. Chef Chang's tasty dishes are mouth watering and always leave our guests satisfied. So whether you are just entering the world or Dim Sum or have a more discerning palate you will not not leave Myers + Chang anything but happy!

For the most authentic of experiences, we recommending seeking one of the best restaurants in Boston's Chinatown, well, not exactly IN Chinatown. The Hei La Moon, a little-known yet outstanding restaurant and dim sum house, is one of many Chinese restaurants located on Beach Street, a main street in Chinatown. This established eatery; however, resides on the other side of the surface road from the main part of Chinatown, in Boston's Leather District. The important thing to note is that the Hei La Moon is one Chinese restaurant that excels in nearly everything it does.

The professional staff set Hei La Moon a part from the more informal restaurants found in Chinatown. Located in one of the many old buildings that make up the Leather District, Hei La Moon is enormous inside, making it perfect for dim sum. Hei La Moon has two menus. The more authentic Chinese menu, features rather unusual dishes. Included on the Dim Sum menu are shark fin dumpling, lotus seed buns, and duck feet. For those looking for more Americanized dishes, you will eat delicious and familiar dishes as well.

As most visitors know, Boston is one New England city with a very strong Irish influence. This can be best appreciated during the month of March, when we celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Local businesses display their Irish pride all month long and many traditional cultural events are scheduled. If you are planning to stay with us during the St. Patrick's Day weekend in Boston, you might enjoy checking out a few uniquely Bostonian Irish celebrations.

If you have access to a car, take a twenty minute drive south of the city to the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, MA on Saturday the 17th for a true Irish breakfast with cold pints starting at 10:00 AM, continuing with Irish music and step dancing all afternoon. Head back into the city for a 3-mile self-guided stroll along the Irish Heritage trail, with 16 historical sites beginning at the Rose Kennedy Garden by the waterfront and ending near Fenway at the John Boyle O'Reilly Memorial. Stop in for dinner at Durgin Park in Faneuil Hall for the best corned beef and cabbage in the city.
On Sunday the 18th, take the Red Line Subway into South Boston for the 111th annual St. Patricks Day Parade. Over a half million spectators line the streets for the Southie Parade each year, making it one of the nation's largest St. Patrick's Day celebrations! Get a spot on Broadway early, as the parade starts at 1:00 PM but the streets fill up quickly! After the parade, grab a few pints at one of Southie's countless neighborhood Irish pubs. The L Street Tavern (where the movie Good Will Hunting was filmed!) and Murphy's Law (scenes from Gone Baby Gone were filmed here as well) are two local favorites. If you're not too tired from all the celebrating, jump back on the Red Line and dig into history at the Boston museum dedicated to perhaps our city's most famous Irishman, John F. Kennedy.

Centrally located among these sites, you will find our downtown Boston bed and breakfast. Northeastern may have the earliest graduation, but the one you want to watch out for is Boston University commencement weekend 2012. New Restuarant Near Boston Bed and Breakfast in South End

It has been just about a year since Rocca closed its doors at 500 Harrison. During that time, there may have been a few other closures in the South End restuarant scene, but none that we miss quite as much as Rocca. Last year, we were gifted with a string of new restuarants on Stanhope Street like the fabulous Red Latern and its neighbors Brahmin and Zocalo, all near our Boston bed and breakfast. After months of rumors circulating new ownership of the space at 500 Harrison, it seems that the Aquitaine Restaurant Group's vision is beginning to materialize along with support & excited.

The Aquitaine Group, is well known and respected Boston restaurant company, revered for the Metropolis Café, Union Bar and Grille, and Gaslight Brasserie du Coin, Aquitaine in the South End, as well its sister locations in a couple suburbs.

The group was founded at the creation of Metropolis Cafe in 1995, by Executive Chef/Partner Seth Woods. A few years later, Woods opened Aquitaine Bar on Tremont Street in Boston's South End paving the way for what guests at our Bed and Breakfast now know as restaurant row Jeffrey Gates joined the Aquitaine Group a few years later and in 2003, was a key player in opening Union Bar and Grille and later Gaslight Brasserie, both in the South End restaurants. Gates brought a wealth of experience and an understanding of the Boston restaurant scene to the Aquitaine Group. This experience will be crucial in the group's latest endevaor, 500 Harrison, an urban, Roman trattoria.

With sucess of the group's neighboring Brasserie, Gaslight, the location of their new restaurant, called Cinquecento or 500 in Italian, is not seen as a curse or weakness but an opportunity. Obviously they are naming the business after the address. Bold, we love it! We believe this is the right attitude to help the group consider which types of cuisine, price point, audience and atmosphere would succeed at the address.

Speaking of atmosphere, from what we have gathered, the space will receive a complete overhaul, stripping away the comtemporary visage of the former restaurant and focusing on the rustic, warehouse bones of the space. An impressive staircase will lead restaurant goers to reimagined second floor, which will span the former atrium and be the only level of the restaurant. The former lounge and bar space will become a private event space and will allow the energy of Cinquecento to be focused on a single floor, which the new owners believe will bring a successful ambiance.

The only thing we do not like? The wait, there has been no timeline revealed, so when Cinquecento will open remains a slight mystery. Our Boston boutique hotel guests, hope that the wait is not long, and we agree. Dining in the South End restaurants is one of our favorite things to do in Boston. On its 17th year, Riverdance is making short round in Boston at the Boston Opera House. The Boston weather is not the only thing making us forget that it is actually winter, but also a new, all year round, farm stand. Sienna Farms South End opened last month, just down the street from our Boston Bed and Breakfast. Setting up shop in street level store front at 106 Waltham Street, the shop is open most days from Noon to 8PM (Tuesday - Sunday).

For those not familiar with Sienna Farms, the fifty plus acre farm, grows fresh produce for farmers' markets, restaurants and a 300 member Community Supported Agriculture share. Nestled in the fertile soils of the Sudbury River valley, Sienna Farms is located just twenty five miles west of Boston. Although the Farm has chosen not to be USDA Organic certified, it relies on the trust of its community to recognize its meticulous efforts for natural and fresh products. During the late Spring and Summer, visiting Sienna Farms at the nearby Copley Farmers' Market, is one of our favorite things to do in Boston.

However, at any time of year, you can find Sienna Farms present in over a dozen local Boston restaurants. Included are the pantries of some of our favorite South End restaurants, like popular Barbara Lynch restaurants B&G Oyster and The Butcher Shop. Both of Barbara Lynch's restaurants share a convenient proximity to the new Sienna Farms. Also our beloved Jean-Georges restaurant, Market is sourcing from the Sienna Farms.With the opening of Sienna's South End location, home cooks can now enjoy fresh local ingredients with more convenience. The farmstand's website even features frequent recipes that help its shoppers to use the seasonal produce it makes available.

As the clock ticks closer to New Years Eve, our Boston bed and breakfast has many options to help you ring in the new year with style! Popular South End eatery B&G Oysters will be offering 5 course tasting menu ($65 per person) in addition to their regular menu for New Year's Eve from 12pm to 11pm. We recommend reservations.
